Baboucarr Nani Sey member of the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia -SJAG- was arrested in connection with land dispute issues has been released on bail Sunday evening, June 11.
Baboucarr Sey and some young people from Kololi were claiming what they called their football field which Global Properties also claimed to have bought from Gambia’s former government. The young journalist has been therefore arrested and taken to Serekunda Police where he spent two nights in detention. He was subsequently charged on four accounts of indictment namely, conspiracy to commit felony, assembly without seeking police permit, destruction of private property and unlawful use of banners. He has since denied the charges.
Words of support were coming from all sides on the social networks calling for his release, “such arrests remind us the era of Jammeh” was the motto commonly used. The young journalist is expected to appear in court on Monday!
