Magistrate Fatoumatta Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has convicted, one Pa Mbaye for stealing chickens. He is sentenced to 12 months community service to be executed at the Kanifing Municipality Cleansing Services Department Daily Observer reported.
According to police prosecutors, Mr. Mbaye was caught stealing chickens in Dippa Kunda, belonging to one Abubacarr Johnson. In his plea of mitigation, Mr. Mbaye blamed Satan for his action, thus urging the court to temper justice with mercy. In delivering her judgment, Magistrate Darboe said, having listened to the facts as narrated by the prosecution and to the convict’s confirmation of that fact, the court holds that the facts as narrated have all the essential elements of stealing.
The convict was admonished and asked to be of good behavior and keep the peace; for if he was to appear before the court again, the laws humane embrace will not accommodate him. However, the magistrate said that the convict shall pay his debt to the society. And subsequently, Pa Mbaye was ordered to serve 12 months community service with effect from Monday 27th of March 2017.
The court ordered that the recovered seven chickens be returned to their rightful owner.
