Authorities from the Sheriff Division of the High Court in Banjul and the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) have closed the Daily Observer newspaper again for the second time this year.
The authorities were accompanied to the Daily Observer premises by the armed unit of the Gambia Police Force, dubbed the Police Intervention Unit (PIU). The PIU officers are presently occupying the Observer company premises to ensure that the company does not continue work as ordered by the court.
It would be recalled that the Daily Observer was earlier closed sometime in June this year, for owing a tax arrear of D17M to the Gambia Revenue Authority. The company was ordered by the GRA officials to cease operation temporarily but was re-opened two weeks later.
