Famous cinematographer, photographer and Ceo of State of Mic Multimedia Alhagie Manka has been awarded West African Youth Award For Creative Professional on the 13th August 2017 in Lagos.
The Award celebrates young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who has made outstanding achievements in the creative industry during the year under consideration such as Disc Jockeys, Models, graphic designer, filmmaker. The young, inspiring and hard worker Alhagie Manka has become widely known in the Gambia during 2016 elections when he was arrested by the former National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for taking photos of the crowd that accompanied former President Jammeh during his nomination process.
Reacting on his facebook page, the award-winner said: “I extend my sincerely and utmost gratitude and thanks to the WEST AFRICA AWARD team for breaking borders and recognizing the work I do in The Gambia. It has been a rough ride, cloudy days and thunder filled nights but I have soared through all these huddles to get to where I am today.”
In 2015 Alhagie made history in being the first Gambian to screen a documentary in an International Film Festival in Holland where he screen a documentary “Welcome to the Smiling Coast” a series about the rise of a new generation of Gambian youths. Since 2010 Alhagie has train more than 20 young Gambians who are now working within and outside Gambia in Multimedia production.
