Gambia Back in Commonwealth in April

The Gambia is expected to be back to the Commonwealth nations latest by April revealed President Adama Barrow.

The president made this revelation in an interview with Sankulleh Gibril Janko of The Point.

When questioned why he was yet to make any travel to England among the many travels he had had since coming in to power as it is one of the countries people hoped would be key in his foreign policy agenda, the president said it is not just about England that he has to focus but the Commonwealth nations as a whole, noting the importance of being a member.

“We did not hesitate to apply to rejoin the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth family is very important, it is not England only but the entire 52 countries”, he said

He went on to say the need for The Gambia to focus on rejoining the Commonwealth family as a whole which he described as a “family”

“The moment you are back to that family, that means you are connected to 52 countries, something cement you together, something connect you together, which is fundamental and that is why we are working very hard to rejoin” the Gambian leader said.

President Barrow said The Gambia is expected to be back latest April 2018. “We are expected to back to the Commonwealth latest by April and for sure I would have addressed the Commonwealth by April” he stressed.
