Gambia to Play Ghana in 2017 Fox Sports WAFU Nations Cup Opener

The Scorpions of the Gambia will be playing the opening game of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament against the host Ghana after The draw for the 2017 edition has been held successfully at a short ceremony in Accra.

The competition which starts on September 9 and ends on September 24 has been categorized into two rounds. The first round entails a knockout format where winners would be drafted into two groups of 4 teams each. The 16-nation competition is sponsored by FOX Networks Group (FNG) who signed a mega partnership deal with the West Africa Football Union (Wafu) last year.

The Gambia Football Federation Second Vice President Ebou Faye was The Gambia’s representative at the event. The prize money for the maiden Wafu Cup of Nations 2017 to be hosted by Ghana is pegged at US$100,000. 

The tournament will have two venues, Takoradi and Cape Coast.

Ghana vs. Gambia

Nigeria vs.  Sierra Leone

Mali vs. Mauritania

Guinea vs. Guinea Bissau

Matches would be played on September 9th.

ZONE B (Cape Coast)

Senegal vs. Liberia

Burkina Faso vs. Niger

Ivory Coast vs. Togo

Benin vs. Cape Verde

Matches would be played on September 10th.
