Sensational female dancehall singer, Sofia, revealed some of the untold challenges women and girls continue to encounter in the music industry. She narrated her bitter experience, saying some guys (producers and promoters) do not want to do things for free but instead keep asking for sexual favors.
“These guys can do anything just to get into your pants,” she noted.
She said this gender-based violence is common and that upcoming female artist are more vulnerable for such terrorizations.
Sofia, who was speaking to a popular entertainment radio show called The Spotlight on Capital FM, said she successfully disabled all these challenges through her determination and passion for the music.
She also lamented the financial challenges female musicians habitually face, narrating the high cost involve in producing a song.
“Guys (male artistes) can sell their shoes and trousers and stuffs like that, as females we can’t do that. It’ll look like something else you know,” she said.
Meanwhile, the artist is gearing up for a mega album launching this year.
The Stone Circle will continue to monitor the seemingly unending obstacles female artists encounter and we will not hesitate to expose the perpetrators if truthful evidence are garnered.
