Hamidou Bojang, former player for Nawettan sides, Pencha and Pipeline in the Serrekunda West Nawettan Zone, has met his untimely death en route to Italy.
Born on 3rd January, 1991, the former defender who had high passion for football was one of the country’s promising talents in the game. He also played for Fajara South, in the Manjai Nawettan.
Bojang, who graduated from St. Augustine’s Senior School, left the country to Mauritania where he spent some time before proceeding to Libya. He was in Libya for some time before attempting to cross over the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
A highly respectful and disciplined Hamidou Bojang, was one of the many African migrants taking the dangerous route to Europe from Libya with the hopes of reaching Italy.
The sensational footballer was part of the players called-up for pre-selection training for the Serrekunda West Zonal Team in 2015. He was not part of the final squad that won that year’s Zonal Championship.
“He was a very good person, a devoted Muslim. Hamidou respected everyone and he was so closed to me. He was always in my room. I will miss him so much and I pray that his soul rests in peace,” Musa Sanneh, a close friend and one-time coach to Hamidou told The Observer Sports.
