Gambia’s President Adama Barrow is to embark on a tour of ECOWAS countries that helped him to assume office and ensure stability following a December post-election crisis.
“He is scheduled to commence the tour tomorrow… I understand that he is supposed to visit Ghana, Serra Leone, Nigeria, and Liberia,” Communication Minister Demba Jawo confirmed.
The Press Release from the President’s Office reads:
The Office of The President wishes to inform the general public that His Excellency, Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia will travel on an official visit today, Wednesday, 26th April 2017 to Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Ghana. His Excellency, The President, and delegation will depart Banjul International Airport at 5:00 P.M.
The leaders of those countries were instrumental in negotiating a peaceful exit of Yahya Jammeh who, in the face of advancing troops from Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria deployed by the regional group, subsequently flew out to Equatorial Guinea where he currently lives in exile.
