UDP – United Democratic Party is facing a dilemma over the choice of a candidate for the already heated race for next year’s Kanifing Municipality mayoral polls.
According to party sources cited by Snbc news, at least eight people have thrown in their names to become the Party’s candidate for KMC Mayor. UDP have not yet specified how many people have formally notified the Party’s secretariat of their intention to run for the critical mayoral seat under their ticket.
Some Names have, however, been spewed around of those seeking to contest under the UDP ticket, including that of Majidi Touray, Papa Njie, and Musa Cham. Many more within the UDP are expected to apply amid deep divisions in the party that has the largest stake in The Gambia’s unity government according to Smbc News.
At least three independent candidates have made public their intentions to vie for the mayoral ship of the country’s commercial hub.
Campaigns are in high gear with the independent candidates already battling to pull supporters to their side, while most of the traditional political parties wait till February to announce their nominees.
