Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour is the 2017 of the Praemium Imperiale winner, the japanese equivalent of the Nobel Prize of the arts.
The announcement was made Tuesday in New York in the presence of the leader of the Super Etoile.
The award ceremony is scheduled on next 18 October in Tokyo, Japan. Youssou Ndour will receive his award from the hands of the Prince Hitachi, younger brother of the Emperor of the Japan.
The Præmium Imperiale is awarded since 1989; it is the world’s most prestigious international prize, it recognizes lifetime achievement in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and theatre/film. Each awardee will receive 15 million yen (approximately D6016600).
